Google Shutting Down Old Bookmarking Sites

Google Shutting Down Old Bookmarking Sites

Google is shutting down this 16-year-old service called Orkut. Google purchased Orkut in March of 2021 and it was one of the biggest upsets for Google at the time. It was known as Google Talk and was an instant hit with the techies. The service was set up to help surfers staying in touch with each other using their email accounts and online contact services. Google or Talk was a brilliant service that helped users save places that they had visited and offered recommendations based on what the user was looking for.

This was a great service but Orkut went beyond just being a place to save places. It also provided an interface that allowed people to make anonymous searches using their email address and cellular number. Google also had an application that allowed the user to save places where they had been and suggested trips that could be taken. The service also offered weather reports and gave advice on what time of day certain attractions were best to visit. In essence it was all about travel and if you want to find out where you can go on vacation this was the place to go.

However, all of that changed yesterday when Google released two new products called Google Buzz and Google Maps. Google Buzz is going everywhere with its new feature that allows you to search for celebrity gossip, news stories, local weather, and much more. With this release Google is taking the idea of sharing your life with others and making it easier than ever to stay connected with others. It is similar to social media sites like Facebook but instead of making friends you are sharing everything you do.

You can get a buzz alert on your cell phone whenever something is going on and you are then able to go straight to that site to see what is happening. Google Maps is another great product from google which lets you find great places just like you would with Google Buzz. This new service includes all of the great aspects of the former Google Maps service such as the ability to find places by star rating, reviews, and price and also allows you to save places that you are interested in seeing but do not have access to a smartphone or laptop.

Since this product was released a year ago this should come as no surprise to anyone as it just basically is the same experience as before but just available on your laptop or smartphone. The one part of the service that many people do not realize is that they can actually sell their ‘starred’ bookmarks to other users. If you have ten thousand saved places on your computer and someone else requests your ten thousand and you give it to them, then you only need to give them permission once.

When they ask for the bookmarked places you provide them and when they are happy with your site and want to store your bookmarks on their own computer, you give them permission to use your bookmarks. This is the best part about ‘bookmarking’ sites; you don’t have to give up any rights or ownership to your bookmarks in order to do so and it is a win situation. There are other ways to keep track of your bookmarks besides using the built-in Google search engine.

You can also find other websites which allow you to create an anonymous user profile and give your friends the ability to add you to see your bookmarks. This way, if you happen to share some interesting websites with your friend, they will be able to view your bookmarks and possibly even add you to a list of favorites. This way, you can easily share your bookmarks with your friends even if they do not have a Google account. This is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to share bookmarks with friends, family, coworkers, or random people out there who are searching for interesting websites.
